Averting Disaster

It was shared with me recently that a friend was coming back from a vacation. It was a long plane flight. He shared that before the plane even took off the runway that the pilot came over the intercom and shared that the first two hours of the flight should be smooth sailing, but then there is likely to be some mild…no moderate turbulence.

Thanks for the heads up was the thoughts that crossed his mind. However two hours into the flight, the first few hints of rocky air hit them. It didn’t stop. The plane bounced very steady for the next twenty minutes that seemed an eternity before what came next. Three severe shifts of the plane. A tragic jolt to the left followed by an immediate sharp shift to the left. Then the drop. The plane went down quickly causing everyone on the plane to gasp out loud sharply. It was likely that even the most seasoned air traveller was deeply concerned what was going to happen next.

What happened next was the pilot getting on the intercom again and sharing that the worst was likely past them. There may be another twenty minutes of this while they search for a different altitude to attempt to rise out of this turbulent front.

As I recall him sharing this account, I think of the many patients that come through a chiropractic office each year. If it’s their first time, they usually will get the opportunity to have an exam and an x-ray to help define the problem, or in some cases view an impending problem that they didn’t know was there.

It’s at that point you, as the patient, get the choice. You see the problem. In some cases you feel the problem. What will you do about it? Will you stay at the same altitude thinking that you’ve been flying for years and expect the same results from the flight…

…or is it maybe time for a change in altitude. Maybe a change in flight plan altogether.

If rocky air is perceivable in your near future, wouldn’t it make sense to do something reasonable and rational to attempt to have the healthiest journey possible?

Ultimately it’s your call. As your chiropractic office, we’re here to help to educate and adjust, to give your spine and nervous system it’s best chance possible. But ultimately it’s your choice as to whether you want to even try…
