Only When It Hurts?

Only When It Hurts?

Some people base their entire definition of health around whether or not they hurt.  It is crucial that you understand that this could not be a more false understanding of health.  If someone were to ask you “Are you healthy?”  Are you only thinking of how you feel?  It truly is a poor indicator.  Let me explain…

When you are younger and you vomit after eating a meal, what does that indicate?  It usually indicates that you ate something that doesn’t agree with your body and your body then proceeds to perform a function that it does in order to protect itself.  It expels it.  Does it feel good?  No.  It it a healthy function?  Yes.

When you have an infection and get a fever, what does that indicate?  Well, what do survivalists in nature do when they want to get rid of bacteria in water to make it safe to drink?  They heat it.  They heat it to boiling.  When your body is under infection then it is a natural and healthy function to heat itself up to burn off the infection.  Does it feel good?  No.  Is it a healthy function?  Yes.

On the other side of the equation.  How do you know if you have heart disease.  Can you feel clogged arteries?  In most cases the first and only symptom that you have heart disease is a tightness in your chest followed by a heart attack.  If you are lucky, you will survive to battle it another day.

We’ve all known someone who appeared “healthy” and was gone the next week.  We toss around phrases like…

“He always felt fine…”

“He was in such good shape…”

“There was nothing wrong with him…”

Through just a few of these examples it should be evident that how you feel has very little bearing on how healthy you are.  That is why it is important that you understand the steps to maintain health and then incorporate them in your life every day.  Remember key components of a chiropractic lifestyle.  Eat nutritious, move dynamic, and think extraordinary.  Your life depends on it.
