Pregnant? Get Chiropractic

Pregnant? Get Chiropractic

A mother of three came through the chiropractic clinic recently. She shared the stories of each of her children’s births. Her story is something that could be beneficial for you to hear, especially if you or anyone that you care for is expecting.

With her first daughter, she engaged in a fifty-hour labor. Let me repeat that again, in case you read past that too quickly. A fifty-hour labor. Most proficient marathoners can run a marathon very reasonably under five hours, which would make that amount of time equivalent to ten marathons. That was a lot of work, and ultimately ended with a cesarean.

With her second child, a son, she wanted to attempt a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). Many hospitals today strongly advise against such an attempt. This time she endured a nine-hour labor and with the help of vacuum extraction, was able to birth the child without cesarean, suffering fourth degree tears in the process. Ouch.

Both of these were tests of endurance. She was up to the task through years of daily exercise and strength training, making regular attempts at a steady, healthy diet. She knew that there was room in their lives for another child, but something was going to be different in this next attempt.

Someone had introduced her to the benefits of chiropractic care and how critical it can be for a pregnant mother during the months of embryological development as well as during the delivery.

All things remaining the same, with the addition of regular chiropractic care, she engaged in her third pregnancy. She followed the chiropractor’s recommendations for care and the months went by. This time contractions started at home and quickly got her and her husband’s attention. They had an appointment that morning anyways to get a check-up at roughly 8:40 in the morning. They went for their normal appointment but something was very different this time around for this mother who had been used to long, lengthy labors. As it turned out, they weren’t even able to do the check-in process, there wasn’t even time to put the IV in (which is common practice in hospitals), because she was ten centimeters dilated. It was time. Their second son was born roughly around 9:15 that morning.

No marathons this time.

She credits her choice to get chiropractic care as making all the difference in the world. She now sees the tremendous benefit of keeping her joints and nervous system working well during pregnancy. Most chiropractors see many pregnant patients have healthier births. It’s very much worth the time it takes to get the regular care that will give you the best opportunity to have a better birth.

This office typically recommends one visit per month for the first six months, twice per month for the next two months, and then once per week until the birth of the child.

Also know that getting care after giving birth is very helpful as your pregnant body starts to restore itself to its old and new patterns.
