Princess And The Pea

Princess And The Pea

Imagine you are having headaches. How do they affect you? Is there even the slightest chance they could affect your mood or demeanor? Could you potentially be shorter with your spouse or your kids over seemingly menial things? How about even the smallest of persistent dull headaches? It could be wearing on you.

Lately in this chiropractic office, there have been a few children who have started care due to the parents admitting that their children have been misbehaving, displaying bad attitudes and explosive tempers in conjunction with disrespect. The parents are flustered and asking each other for parenting advice.

Now in some of these recent cases I’m referencing, a question was asked that literally goes back to the beginning: “How was their delivery?” In each of these cases, the deliveries were described as nothing short of a horror story: a long, drawn out, painful memory.

That can be traumatic on mom...and the child. In fact, the child’s very first subluxation (stress on the nervous system) could have started in those budding moments. It’s a bit reminiscent of the tale of “The Princess and the Pea.” In the fable, the only way to determine which ladies were peasants was to put each one on a multitude of mattresses with a mere pea placed deep underneath them all. In the story, they knew a true princess would be able to feel the irritation of the pea.

That small, seemingly insignificant pea can be akin to stress buried deep in a child’s growing skeletal and nervous system. It may not be a full blown headache like I described it before, but it’s there and it’s nagging. And like any nagging stress in your life, it can wear on you, causing your attitudes and how you react to those that you care about to wax and wane, pushing you to your limits and even causing you to explode when an explosion wasn’t warranted.

To date, most of those children I’m referencing are still coming in for care. Not because they are in excruciating pain, but because their parents are noting a distinctive difference. Their parents like being able to see that their children truly are the prince or princess they knew was hiding in there all along.

Removing the irritation made all the difference. All the difference in the world.
