Earlier this summer, I was speaking with some parents whose child endured many trials when she was a newborn. This was their story.
It all started with early issues of difficulties with breastfeeding. Their daughter started preferring one breast over the other. She furthermore experienced a lot of spitting up after eating. It felt like every drop that went in ended up coming out. In the midst of struggling through every feeding, their daughter was having colic presentation, which basically means she was irritable and screaming during any and all attempts to go to sleep. This led to many restless nights for the baby...and the parents.
The parents shared that they sought out every physician they could think of in attempts to make life easier. Their saving grace finally came when the baby turned six months of age. There was no explanation. No reason. She just stopped having most of those issues and by comparison to the first six months of agony, she was a dream.
As they were sharing the story of what was now their four year old daughter, they rocked in their arms their two week old baby boy. The newest addition. They were praying that it wouldn’t happen again. They are scared that there will be another “tour of duty.”
Our question to them was simple: “Did you try chiropractic?”
Over the years, hundreds of infants have had chiropractic care in our office. Most of them were seeking an option for symptoms very similar to the ones stated above, and they have done better than they would have without. And that is just within one chiropractic office.
Childbirth is hard work, which is why we might call it labor. But we are mistaken if we think that it’s laborious to the mother only. It can be taxing to have one’s body pushed with contracting muscles through a narrow shifting pathway, ideally headfirst, into a new atmosphere. Depending on the circumstances around the delivery, the baby could have sustained the first strain on its neck and burgeoning nervous system in those initial moments.
Even then, chiropractic can help. And despite what many might believe, it is a very gentle process with huge beneficial effects. You see, if a child had irritation in their neck, they might not desire to turn their head in one direction over the other. It might even further cause strain on the nerves to digestion, which stem from the same region. That same irritation might even cause them to experience frustration with attempting to sleep without assistance.
They feed poorly. They spit up frequently. They sleep less. They cry more incessantly, more than usual. Babies know no other way to convey how they are feeling.
So if you are going through a similar “tour of duty” or you know someone that is, stop the suffering by asking yourselves or those special young parents this one simple question: “Are you willing to try chiropractic?”
You might be very happy with the results.
