Attitude accounts for a lot in life. Attitude accounts for a lot with your health. It has a huge impact on not only yourself but others as well. A patient said it best the other day when she shared that she brought her own sunshine with her. That is a great analogy that is best explored first by looking at the complete opposite attitude: the black hole.
A black hole in nature is the greatest gravitational pull that is known. It draws any and all warmth and brightness around it inwards and extinguishes it. This is equivalent to the person that walks into the room and is only concerned about themselves, what others can do for them, and their own problems. This person pulls energy from the room by their mere presence. It is exhausting for all others to be in their presence. I'm sure each of us can think of a time when we've encountered this phenomenon in a person.
However, to bring your own sunshine requires just the opposite attitude in nature: freely giving away warmth and brightness. This is equivalent to the person who walks into the room with a smile and even a hug. They are observant and concerned about people around them, asking questions about others and not necessarily anxious to dredge up their own issues. Others find that it is a joy and uplifting to be around this person. This person adds energy to the room by their mere presence. Other people feel better about themselves after encountering this “sunshine” and have warmth and brightness to carry with them for many moments afterwards.
These are polar opposite attitudes and there is a lot of variance in the in-between, but keep in mind that you do have a choice. Your upbringing and your personality will have a large influence on your attitude, but you still do have a choice.
Make the healthier choice and bring your own sunshine. Be concerned about others. And if you need a helpful suggestion walk around with a smile on your face and let the warmth grow from there.
