Calling In Sick

The unthinkable has happened. You wake up and your throat is a little scratchy, there is a little burn to it. On top of that you have the chills. Your blankets don’t seem enough to keep you warm this morning. Your stomach feels a little nauseous. You can’t breath out of your nostrils. Uh oh. You have all the signs. You didn’t see it coming. You’re sick.

Well doesn’t that just affect every area of your life! All of a sudden any plans that you had for the day need modification. Someone is going to need to help get the kids to school. You’re probably going to have to call in sick to work. Nobody is going to want to see this face today. There’s that date night that you planned with your spouse tonight that will need to be put off until this passes.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just grab a remote control and just “pause” life until your body starts to feel better in a few days...a few weeks...a few months?

Growing up in a chiropractic household, I remember the times when my immune system started to feel “under attack.” When those moments struck, I would turn to my father and he would recite the same words that I remember hearing all my growing up years during times like these...

“Get on the table, son.”

You see my father was (and is) a chiropractor. The “table” was the chiropractic adjusting table where he would check my spinal alignment looking for areas where the motion and the alignment of my spine were faulty and adjust those spinal regions. The result is a nervous system (and immune system) that works better.

I remember as a kid thinking how odd it was that my friends would be sick and missing school for weeks when I missed school for maybe a day and a half. There were moments of jealousy within me, thinking that they were making more progress on their “hole to China” than I was sitting at school. Never once did I process that they were going to have to do all their homework to catch up later.

The chiropractic adjustment is a powerful event. Now that I am a chiropractor, I say the same words to my sons and daughters. They expect it. They know that it makes a difference.

So next time you or a family member’s immune system feels “under attack” and you are making all of your calls to cancel your life’s appointments for the day, before you pick up the phone to cancel your chiropractic appointment, remember that your chiropractic care is there to help you recover faster.

Keep your chiropractic appointment. It makes a difference. Get on the table.
