The Best Beginnings

There was a special moment in the office yesterday where a family of six walked in the door to get adjusted…when only the day before, they were a family of five.  Yes, the mother had given birth to a beautiful baby boy at home, less than 24 hours earlier.  And the whole family was now in the office to get adjusted.

To many out there, it may seem extreme to think of going to your chiropractor the day after having your baby.  Needless to say, every other patient that was in the office that day was blessed to have seen such a fresh, healthy human being, cute as a button, experiencing everything for the first time.  It was fun to listen to the mother sharing why.

She shared that her children don’t have the health issues that most of her other parent friends complain about.  Her children are well adjusted and for the most part live fun, healthy and active lives without colic, feeding issues, or sleepless nights (not necessarily all of them).  She enjoys her kids and the healthy lives that they have and with each one, has made sure that the first trip they’ve made after being born is to the chiropractor.  It’s been safe, gentle and effective in starting their young little nervous systems off right.  After all, birth is a normal yet biomechanically-challenging process, on the bodies of both mother and child.

As she shared her story, everyone that was standing around her started to understand a little more.  Each parent and grandparent that was there started sharing how they wish they had known about this, recalling stories of their children when they were young and the different trials they underwent.

I couldn’t help but smile as I continued along with my work, adjusting the next patient and thinking about my own children, about beginnings.  How sometimes it takes some of us longer to get started on our journey of health than others.  There is no guilt to be had.  The choice to start down the path to better health can start at any age.

It was and always is a complete joy to deliver the first amazing chiropractic adjustment to a young nervous system to assist healthy function of their nerves.  Sometimes the baby opens their eyes and glances at me with a “who are you?” expression.  Sometimes they yawn.  Sometimes they fall asleep by the time the adjustment is done.  It’s a special event.

If you or your children haven’t been experiencing the best of health lately, make sure that, along with good nutrition and an active lifestyle, chiropractic care is part of your health picture.  It makes a difference.

As the young family prepares to head home, I offer my congratulations again.  They head out the door, father holding the car seat with the newborn, mother behind him and the three other children following like little ducklings following mother to the shore.

I smile.  Living life healthy is the only way to do it and what I just witnessed was a really good start.
