The Next Big Thing

Home

Children are the future. They are what we leave behind. They can either be left with a brighter future than we had, or not. They can be left wealthier, or not. They can be left healthier, or not. Really it comes down to the choices that we all make as parents of this next generation.

Unfortunately the research states that this is the first generation of children that is not expected to live as many years as their parents. There is something wrong with that. Something very wrong.

It really comes down to the same steps of good health that we talk about every week in this chiropractic office. Good exercise and activity, healthy nutrition daily, and good posture with regular chiropractic care. All of these steps are necessary for better health. They are important for both you and your kids.

I have heard so many times over the years the thoughts of parents that don’t know better: “Why would kids even need chiropractic care?”  An article I read a few months back stated that  between birth and 12 years of age, children have a significant fall an average of nearly 5000 times. Wow! Can you imagine during the next twelve years of your life having a significant fall 5000 times!?

It’s a good thing that kids are built better for it. Their system is still growing. They are born mostly cartilaginous (softer and more pliable) and as they get older, their bones start to get firmer and firmer, eventually sealing the growth plates and finding their adult form. But keep in mind that children are still in those growing years. There is a phrase in chiropractic that says, “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”

These are your children. They are our future. Don’t you think that they deserve all the benefits of healthy growing up years and habits that sustain themselves into a healthy adulthood hopefully longer and more fruitful than even we had? I think so.

My encouragement is this. If any of this makes sense to you, please consider every step you take with your kids with a watchful eye and full of intent. Feed them good food. Take them for walks and hikes and play with them. And teach them that their spine and their posture are important by taking them regularly to their chiropractor. And better yet...

...show them by example.
