Where Lies The True Injury?

It crossed our plate recently that someone in our circle of acquaintances was in an accident. It was an accident while falling out of a moving vehicle they braced themselves for the impact by holding out their hands to stop themselves. Hands, wrists, and head collided first with the opposing windshield as everything came to a stop. Now granted, I wasn’t there but I am describing this as I best heard it described to someone else.

The main point is this. The outcome of this injury was fractured wrists that required surgery. That is a painful outcome. But as I watched and listened to people talk about the accident and the injury to the the wrists, I started to hear something even more dangerous that the injury to the wrists and the ensuing surgery. I heard this…

“At least that’s all that was hurt in the accident.”

Sure the wrists were broken requiring surgery. That’s painful and a burden, but is it possible that the force required to be flung at a vehicle and collided with could have put stresses on other areas of her spine and structure enough to cause stress on her structure? The answer is yes! Is it possible that those stresses on her structure if left unattended could can nerves in multiple areas of her body to lessen their ability to send healthy nerve impulses to essential body organs and their ensuing functions? The answer is yes! Is it possible that an injury to the neck or other areas of her spine could cause larger more life impacting problems later on than the broken wrists? The answer again is yes!

How then would she know if there was injury to her neck or spine, to her spinal alignment or structure? That can only be addressed by her chiropractor who has the training and the understanding of spinal biomechanics when it comes to injuries like this.

“The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” Ever hear that phrase before? It indicates that what screams the loudest gets the attention. What if what isn’t screaming now, screams later? What if you could catch those potential problems now instead of letting them develop and have their negative impact? 

We still live in a day and time where attention is given to the loudest pain. What I’m suggesting with an article like this is to address those issues, but don’t forget your most important system that was in the accident. Your nervous system.

It’s still protected by your spine and your vertebrae. It still controls every function of every aspect of every organ and tissue in your body. That is important. If you were in an accident, so was it. Certainly not just you wrists or any other independent “squeaky wheel.”

Don’t let anyone convince you that if it doesn’t hurt then, “…at least that’s all that was hurt in the accident.” That can be a more painful outcome.
