Need To Be Like Sherlock

Biomechanics. Structure. Spine. When you recognize the importance of these and their role in your health, then outside of your established relationship with your chiropractor, the greatest asset you could muster when it comes to your health is to be like Sherlock Holmes.

Remember that your spine protects your nervous system. Your nervous system controls all aspects of you. Your digestion. Your immune function. All five of your senses. All cognitive ability. Roger W. Sperry, PhD who won the Nobel Prize in 1981 was quoted as saying “A body that is free of nerve interference has more power to heal, think and metabolize. Ninety percent of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by movement of the spine.”

Chiropractic is the sole profession that address the motion and alignment of your spine through the spinal adjustment. While maintaining a healthy relationship with your chiropractor for the sake of your health, the need to be like the great detective means watching closely to the habits that you have each and every day. Do you sit with you legs crossed? Is your mattress failing to support you at night? Is your pillow supporting your neck in a healthy way? Are you watching too much television? Are you spending too much time in inactivity each day? Are you exercising? Are you eating in a healthy fashion? Are you reading healthy books? How is the ergonomics of your chair at work? Your desk? Are your shoes providing adequate arch support? 

The list can go on and on and it’s not necessarily your job to know the answers to each of these questions, but by all means process the questions and more, and then ask your chiropractor, who is getting to know your spine, your lifeline like no other if they can help you with the answers. There may be clues that those questions bring up that can help you see the best results possible when it comes to your health.

The door opened. She had a case and wanted it solved. She had been experiencing headaches for years and wanted some resolution. The chiropractor was up to the task. X-rays were taken along with an evaluation. A plan of care was established and the game was afoot. Unfortunately the mystery thickened as after each adjustment there was profound relief but by the next visit the pain returned. More clues needed to be overturned. More questions to be asked. Finally after much discovery the right question was discovered. She was sleeping on her stomach every night, a notoriously horrible position causing much stress to the neck and low back. She corrected her habit. Chiropractic was therefore more effective, and the case was solved!
