This last weekend the opportunity was had to adjust a patient and her baby one last time before they drove south in their move out of state. It was our pleasure to assist with a spinal adjustment from all the packing to get them ready for a long car ride.
As the adjustment was commencing she shared in so many words how much she was grateful for our care over the last several years and that she knows that if it wasn't for her chiropractic care that the little boy crawling all over the floor in front of us would likely never have been. She could hardly get that part out without tears welling up.
You see, when her and her husband first sought chiropractic care, they did so because they heard a faint rumor that chiropractic could possibly help with infertility. She and her husband hadn't been able to conceive for many years and the perverbial "clock was ticking". She approached the office, had a consult, had an examination and x-rays, and was explained that certain areas of her spine that had poor position could be causing some fault in their attempts due to the pressure that it could cause on the nerves that went to her reproductive organs.
This made sense to her and she and her husband decided to attempt to correct the problem through chiropractic care and nutrition. They were diligent in their efforts as the months went by. Nearly a year of care and changes to their lifestyle happened when one day she came into the office to share a two-part story. The first part was that they were getting frustrated with the lack of progress and were seeking testing through the fertility clinic in their town. The testing a week earlier lead the doctor in charge to share with them that "...even with the best in technology available today, that the odds of her getting pregnant were one in a million." It was discouraging to hear and they decided to see if they could pull off getting the $15,000 together to try. They knew that it could take a few weeks to get it together. They barely could get the money together when...
...Part two. She grinned from ear to ear and shared that she was pregnant!
She stayed consistent with her chiropractic care throughout the pregnancy and she gave birth to a beatiful baby boy! It was a joy to have played a part in that journey in helping a family grow. But now here we were...
There were two adjustments, a few hugs, and a wave at the window as they drove off.
Lives continue to change. People will come and go, but stories like this keep a chiropractor coming back tomorrow, because you never know whose life chiropractic will change next.
Declan, may you always know that you are one in a million.
